What every model in the iPhone 17 family costs right now, what changed this month, and how to spend less than sticker price.

Prices before tax. “Unlocked” means bought from Apple without a carrier activation discount applied at checkout.

The lineup just shifted

If you looked up iPhone 17 pricing a few weeks ago, some of it is now out of date. On September 9, 2026, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a new foldable, the iPhone Duo. As it does every year, Apple pulled the previous Pro models — the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max — from its online store the same day. The next day, September 10, Apple raised US prices on the phones it kept: the iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 16 each went up by $100.

The result is a lineup that looks a little different from the one Apple announced a year ago. Here’s where things stand today.

iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, and iPhone Air — current prices

These three are the non-Pro members of the 2025 iPhone generation, and they’re still sold new, directly from Apple, today.

512GB$899

512GB$1,129 ($1,099 with carrier activation)

About that $30 gap on iPhone 17: Apple’s advertised iPhone 17 price already bakes in a $30 “connectivity discount” that only applies if you activate with AT&T, T‑Mobile, or Verizon at checkout. Choose “connect to a carrier later” — which is what you want if you plan to use another carrier, an eSIM you already have, or no carrier at all — and the price goes up by $30.

What happened to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

Both are discontinued as first-party Apple products. They launched in September 2025 at $1,099 (Pro) and $1,199 (Pro Max) and were removed from Apple’s online store on September 9, 2026, the day the iPhone 18 Pro line was announced. That’s Apple’s normal pattern — it retires the previous Pro generation the moment the new one arrives, rather than selling two Pro generations side by side.

Discontinued doesn’t mean unavailable — it means Apple stopped selling it as new stock. Software updates continue as normal, and you can still find both phones through carriers, Best Buy, Amazon, and Apple’s own certified-refurbished program while stock lasts, typically at or below their original prices.

If you want a current Pro phone instead

The Pro tier now means the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which start $100 above where the 17 Pro line began.

Apple also introduced a new category this year, the iPhone Duo — a book-style foldable starting at $1,999 with a 7.6-inch inner display. It sits above the Pro Max as the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold.

Buying guide: which one, and how to pay less

Matching the phone to how you’ll use it

iPhone 17e — the value pick

Same A19 chip as the rest of the lineup, but a smaller screen, no ProMotion, no Dynamic Island, and a single rear camera. Right choice if you want current performance and years of iOS updates without paying for features you won’t use.

iPhone 17 — the mainstream default

Now the cheapest iPhone with a 120Hz ProMotion display and a dual-camera system, at a starting storage of 256GB instead of the 128GB Apple used to ship at this price. For most people upgrading from a two- or three-year-old iPhone, this is the sensible landing spot.

iPhone Air — for size and weight over everything

A titanium-framed, single-camera phone built to be thin and light rather than feature-dense. Worth the premium over the base iPhone 17 only if that thinness is genuinely what you’re paying for — its camera and battery life trail the Pro models.

iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max — cameras, zoom, and longevity

The only current phones with the telephoto camera, the highest RAM, and the longest support runway ahead of them. If you were eyeing an iPhone 17 Pro, buying the newer 18 Pro for $100 more gets you a fresher starting point on software support.

A discontinued iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max — only if the discount is real

Now that Apple isn’t selling them, the only reason to seek one out is a genuine clearance price from a carrier or retailer. At full launch price, the newer 18 Pro is the better buy for the same money or close to it.

Ways to bring the price down

Trade in your current phone

Apple’s trade-in program credits anything from an iPhone 8 or newer, with credit applied instantly at checkout. Condition matters a lot here — a cracked screen or battery below 80% health can cut the offer sharply.

Activate with a carrier at purchase

The $30 connectivity discount on iPhone 17 is one thing; the bigger money is in carrier trade-in deals, which can knock several hundred dollars off as bill credits spread over 24–36 months. Read the fine print — leaving the carrier or the plan early usually forfeits the remaining credit.

0% financing through Apple Card

Apple Card Monthly Installments spreads the full price over up to 24 months with no interest, and the phone arrives unlocked regardless of which carrier you select at checkout.

Buy the storage tier you’ll actually use

Each step up in storage costs roughly $200. Unless you shoot a lot of 4K video or ProRes, 256GB is enough for most people now that Apple made it the standard starting point across the lineup.
